Radio Waves

Radio waves are the longest of the electromagnetic waves. Radio waves are over a football field long. They are the waves that radio stations use to send music across their channels. "During a live broadcast in New York, the music will reach listeners in California a fraction of a second before it can be heard by the New York audience sitting in the back of the concert hall"(University of Michigan The Basic Facts About Radio Waves). These waves are formed by molecules vibrating slowly.

Radio waves are so big that a 64 meter satellite dish can see as much as a backyard telescope clearly. That's why, as you can maybe see in this picture, they have fields of satellite dishes to get a clear picture of space. Radio waves can also have harmful effects on your body. Scientists have found that radio waves after prolonged exposure has a very small possibility of increasing your chance to get a brain tumor. You can get this from telephones or headphones.

Radio waves can help us see gases that you can't see with the naked eye like the above picture which is showing carbon monoxide in our galaxy the milky way.
"By studying the radio waves originating from these sources, astronomers can learn about their composition, structure, and motion"(NASA)

Nice job. I think it's amazing that listeners in california will hear the music being played in New York, before the people in the back of the music hall will.

Kind of scary to hear that it could give you a brain tumor! I like your pictures. My favorite is the last one because it draws your attention first. Good work

Its hard to believe that you could hear a broadcast from New York in California! Good job though. It is a little nerve racking that headphones could increase the risk of having a brain tumor!

Very nice images. It's cool how radio wavelengths are as long as a football field while visible light waves are the length of a bacterium! I also didn't know that radio waves can be used to see gases!

I never think of radiowaves as anything other than the radio, so cool.
